In an audio message aired June 3, 2009 on Al-Jazeera TV, Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden states that "Obama and his administration have sown new seeds that will increase hatred and vengeance towards America," that President Obama is "following in the footsteps of his predecessor," and that "the American people should prepare to continue to reap what the leaders of the White House are sowing." Report: Shabab Al-Mujahideen Rebuffs Hizbul Islam's Unity Bid

A Puntland-based website reports that Shabab Al-Mujahideen has rejected a unity proposal put forward by the new head of the Somali Islamist rebel group Hizbul Islam, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys.
According to news reports, there has been substantial operational cooperation between the two groups, both of which are fighting the Somali government, but ideological differences may be leading Shabab Al-Mujahideen to oppose a merger. Shabab Al-Mujahideen considers itself an Al-Qaeda ally and part of the transnational jihad.

AQIM Executes British Hostage

According to a communique issued by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), the organization has executed British hostage Edwen Dyer.
The communique, posted on the Islamist website Al-Faluja, states that Dyer was executed on May 31, 2009 after Britain failed to meet AQIM's "legitimate" demands.
It also accuses Britain of caring little for the lives of its citizens, and promises that AQIM will continue the jihad and the efforts to free Muslim prisoners.
Claim: 80,000 Al-Qaeda Propaganda CDs Distributed in Gaza

The Martyr Abu Mus'ab Al-Zarqawi Brigades for Jihadi Media in Palestine claimed, in a post on a forum, that it has distributed 80,000 CDs of Al-Qaeda and jihadist propaganda in the Gaza Strip.
The post was on the Al-Ansar forum. Below are examples of some of the CDs:
Islamic State of Iraq: "The Desirers of Death for the Sake of Allah" and other releases (pictured: Abu Mus'ab Al-Zarqawi)
Al-Sahab: "The Cross-Worshippers' Hell in Khorasan [i.e. Afghanistan]" and "Jihadi Operations against the Cross-Worshippers"
In Iraq, Commander of Jaysh Ansar Al-Sunnah Arrested, His Deputy Killed

A Jordanian paper reports, citing Iraqi Defense Minister Spokesman Gen. Muhammad Al-'Askari, that the commander of the jihad group Jaysh Ansar Al-Sunnah, Muhammad Hardhawi, was arrested and that his deputy, Sa'doun 'Aloush, was killed during a raid by joint American-Iraqi forces in Kirkuk province north of Baghdad. Other wanted individuals were apprehended as well.
It should be noted that this report did not appear in the Iraqi papers.

In New Video, Mauritanian Al-Qaeda Maghreb Official Denounces Upcoming Mauritanian Elections

A new 24-minute audio address released by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) features 'Abd Al-Rahman Abu Anas Al-Shinqiti, who is described as a member of the organization's majlis shura (advisory council) and qadi (judge) for the organization's southern region. ("Al-Shinqiti" means "the Mauritanian.")
The video is dated June 1, 2009, but was posted on jihadist websites on May 30.
In the video, Al-Shinqiti denounces the upcoming Mauritanian elections, and says that the adoption of democracy over shari'a rule is the reason for the Muslims' problems in Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, and elsewhere.

Sayyed Muhammad Javed, the former commissioner of restive Malakand Division of North West Frontier Province (NWFP), has been detained for his alleged links with Taliban militants in the Swat district, according to an Urdu daily. The NWFP's Malakand Division includes the Swat district where the Pakistani Army has launched an army operation against the Taliban.

In Pakistan's tribal district of Khyber Agency, Hindu and Sikh Pakistanis have agreed to pay Jizia (Islamic tax on non-Muslims) to the militants, according to an Urdu daily.
In lieu of the Jizia, militant group Lashkar-e-Islam led by Mangal Bagh has agreed to provide security to the non-Muslims, the report added.
