Al-Qaeda Maghreb Latches Onto Algiers Housing Riots Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has issued a communiqué in support of the riots in the Diar Echemms neighborhood of Algiers. The disturbances began on October 19, 2009, as residents clashed with police over the Algerian government's housing policy and the difficult living conditions in the poor neighborhood.
