Caucasus Emirate Website: Chechen President Was Target of Failed Assassination Attempt
A female suicide bomber failed in her attempt to assassinate Chechnya's President Ramzan Kadyrov on September 27, 2009 according to the Chechen rebel website Kavkaz Center.
According to the website, the bomber approached a building in Gudermes, east of Grozny, in which Kadyrov was holding a meeting. When security guards stopped her at the entrance to the building she detonated her explosives.
The website had no information on casualties.
Kavkaz Center wrote that there has been a media blackout regarding the failed assassination attempt, and that there has also been no official claim of responsibility.
While Kavkaz Center is affiliated with the Islamic Emirate of the Caucasus organization, it often writes in the style of news reports, which are distinct from the Emirate's communiqués.
